The last two times Irish actor Brendan Gleeson has worked with Martin McDonagh or his brother John Michael McDonagh, it has resulted in a bevy of awards nominations, including Golden Globe nods for 2008′s In Bruges and 2011′s The Guard.  Both movies premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and Gleeson’s latest film with John, Calvary, will have its world premiere at the 2014 festival on January 19.

Described as a “blackly comedic drama,” Gleeson stars in Calvary as a priest, Father James, who receives a death threat during confessional.  Consistent with the definition of the title, Father James, a “good man intent on making the world a better place,” according to the official synopsis, experiences mental and emotional anguish as he comes to terms with the torment coming his way, trying to figure out who has it in for him.

Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) and Kelly Reilly (Flight) also star in the film, which is seeking U.S. distribution, but will open in the Ireland and the UK in April.
